Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children®
Because Keeping Kids Safe Starts With Us
Child sexual abuse is a topic many adults shy away from—but awareness and action are the first steps toward prevention. That’s the goal of Darkness to Light: Stewards of Children®, a nationally recognized, evidence-informed training that gives adults the tools to prevent, recognize, and respond to child sexual abuse.
This training is ideal for parents, educators, caregivers, youth-serving professionals, coaches, faith leaders, and any adult who wants to be part of a safer, more responsive community.
What Is Stewards of Children®?
Stewards of Children® is the flagship program from Darkness to Light, a national nonprofit dedicated to empowering adults through awareness and education. This program is:
- Evidence-informed and third-party evaluated, with proven results in changing knowledge, attitudes, and behavior
- Available nationwide in both English and Spanish
- Rooted in the belief that adults—not children—are responsible for prevention
Through real survivor stories, expert commentary, and practical tools, participants are guided through the five steps to protect children and create safer environments.
What You’ll Learn
In this 2-hour training, participants will:
✅ Understand the scope and impact of child sexual abuse
✅ Recognize signs and indicators of potential abuse or grooming
✅ Learn how to respond compassionately and appropriately to disclosures
✅ Build confidence in how to report abuse or suspected abuse
✅ Take actionable steps to create safer homes, schools, and organizations
This training removes fear and replaces it with confidence, clarity, and community responsibility.
Why It Matters
The statistics are sobering: 1 in 10 children will experience sexual abuse before their 18th birthday. But abuse is preventable—and adults are the key.
Stewards of Children® shifts the conversation from passive awareness to active protection. By participating, you join a national movement to ensure that every child grows up in an environment where they are seen, heard, and safe.
Who Should Attend
This training is valuable for:
- Parents and grandparents
- Teachers, coaches, and school staff
- Nonprofit, church, and camp volunteers
- Healthcare and social service providers
- Any adult who cares about the safety of children in their community
No prior experience or background in abuse prevention is required—just a willingness to learn and act.
Join us in creating a community where children are protected, not just hoped to be safe.
