Mental Health Matters
Creating Space for Emotional Wellness and Support
Mental health is just as important as physical health—but it’s often overlooked, especially in school-aged children. Mental Health Matters is a specialized program that gives students tools to understand and care for their mental and emotional well-being.
Building on the foundation of Child Safety Matters and Teen Safety Matters, this program helps students develop lifelong habits of self-awareness, resilience, and help-seeking.
What Students Learn
This program equips youth to:
- Understand emotional health and why it matters
- Recognize signs of stress, anxiety, depression, and emotional overwhelm
- Learn healthy coping strategies for everyday challenges
- Address stigma and normalize seeking help
- Navigate conversations around substance use and abuse
- Know when—and how—to reach out to a trusted adult
Through engaging, age-appropriate lessons, students learn that emotional struggles are nothing to be ashamed of. Mental Health Matters creates a safe space for students to talk, reflect, and build the tools they need to thrive.
Why It Matters
Emotional health challenges can begin early—and without the right support, they can escalate. This program ensures students don’t feel alone or misunderstood. It offers a preventive, supportive framework that fosters openness, empathy, and connection.
